Runaway success - thank you Samui!!!

SPARK! Circus visited Samui on 26th and 27th January to hold workshops for children, and to perform in a fundraising show organised by the Samui community (see sponsors below).

Both events were a great success.

spark at Wat jaengThe schoolchildren at Wat Jaeng School in Nathon enjoyed a spectacular 'day show' and 150 children joined the performers in workshops with hula, balancing, juggling poi and balancing sticks. Andrea Russell the ringmistress also donated toys and tools for the children to play with to practice their newly-learned skills. Samahita Retreat Yoga Thailand (SRYT) were on hand to donate cookies, and provide fruit, water and lunch for the performers. In addition general manager Bob de Jong handed over a donation to Andrea that was raised the SRYT's Christmas party.

The fundraising show held the following night was stunning - as a spectacle, as a fundraiser and to hear this amazing tale of generosity of spirit.

We met these performers and heard their stories, and the local community was receptive and supportive to the tune of raising B100,000 on the night. The event held at Bandara Resort and Spa, Samui drew a big crowd of locals and their children and the SPARK! team gratefully took the funds to support their work in Mae Sot and buy supplies for the over 4,000 children they will meet and entertain along the Thai-Burmese border.  It was a lovely to meet other like minded folk, and Steve Bray local DJ donated his time to provide music into the night so that many stayed to enjoy the lovely grassy setting and a chance to see old friends and meet new people.

A video of the pre-show entertainment and atmosphere. Thanks to Donna, hoopgoddess on Samui, for shooting this video and uploading so many more!

We'd like to list the organisers, supporter and friends who all contributed:

So many people helped and nothing would have worked as well without each and every one listed below. That's why we call it community! Thank you all so much!:

Special thanks to Lorraine Clarke for co-organising and helping to make this all happen.
And to Helen Taylor for overseeing accounts and financials and buying the beer.
