Samui Mala Children's Day
was held at International School of Samui (ISS) on Saturday, September 25
Great education
Samui Mala's Green Kid's day was all about environmental education through fun. This year we've all
been concerned about drought and coral bleaching, and the threat of
pollution from oil exploration in the gulf, and therefore it seems appropriate to
dedicate our focus via science experiments, movies, lectures and
presentations on this precious element of water....ISS (Blue Water School) Senior School science students took the 'water theme' of Samui Mala day seriously, creating a water harvest prototype and a cool video presentation to document water issues both globally and on Samui.
Khun Wuttikun of the Forestry Department's watershed unit and GIDOA (Green Island Dive Operators Association) were on hand to teach about both fresh water and the oceans. Rocky Resort also did a great display of their activities with Wat Lamai School whom they support under the 'low carbon school' program of the THA (Thai Hotel Association)
Great fun
Children from all
communities on the island spent the day together enjoying healthy and green activities,
films, competitions, martial arts demonstrations, song and dance and a
chance to become the stewards of the environment they will inherit. And play fierce football!
Samui United won the tournament, taking home a huge trophy and even bigger smiles.
And fun activities, demonstrations of martial arts and dancing and music and food....
We list our supporters, sponsors and thanks to all below.

Community festival
The Samui Mala has always been
supported by the host venues, local hotel and tourist associations,
private businesses and individuals. Our aim is to raise awareness of
sustainable, healthy living on Samui, create networks of individuals
interested in environmental issues and to raise funds to support
educational and charitable causes.
Everything is a gift! All activities are run by volunteers, all venues,
facilities and materials and participation by speakers or performers is
donated freely. While some venues and events can provide
facilities free of charge, others charge for entry or food and
drink to cover basic costs depending on circumstances, or to raise
funds for education or future activities.
Green Island:
Samui Mala is a green festival so
every attempt is made to use as little paper or non-recyclable material
as possible. Please join friends and drive together to save fuel.
Please consider alternate and mindful ways to use materials and
resources that are local, sustainable or regenerative!
